In this tutorial, I’m going to explain how to get SpotWeb working again on DSM 6. You will probably get a 403 error. If you try to access spotweb via http:\/\/your-ip-address\/spotweb<\/p>\n\n

The error is caused because the permissions on the folder “volume1\/web” have been changed to 0000. And this should be 07555.<\/p>\n\n

Enable SSH Synology<\/h2>\n\n

If you don’t have SSH enabled on your Synology yet, you need to enable it first, so that we can properly set the permissions on the “volume1\/web” folder. In the following I explain how to enable SSH on your Synology.<\/p>\n\n

In Synology we go to Control Panel<\/strong>. And then to Terminal and SNMP<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Check Enable SSH service<\/strong> here. And click Apply<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Access Synology from the command line with Putty<\/h2>\n\n

Now that we have enabled Terminal (SSH) on your Synology NAS. Can we access the nas via the command line. We do this with Putty.<\/p>\n\n

Download Putty<\/strong> heree http:\/\/www.chiark.greenend.org.uk\/~sgtatham\/putty\/download.html<\/a>and run putty.exe.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Fill in the IP address of your NAS at Host Name<\/strong> and at Port<\/strong>10. then click Open<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

You will now receive an error message click on Yes<\/strong>. This is because you have not previously connected to your NAS via the command line. This only needs to be done once.<\/p>\n\n

You will now see a black screen with login as:<\/strong> Here you have to enter a username with admin rights. Press enter<\/strong>. And enter the password<\/strong>and press enter<\/strong>again.<\/p>\n\n

Now run the following command.<\/p>\n\n

sudo chmod -R 0755 \/volume1\/web<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n

Then press Enter<\/strong>. And enter your Password<\/strong>. And press Enter<\/strong>again.<\/p>\n\n

You have now correctly set the permissions to the folder “\/volume1\/web” You no longer need Putty. So you can close Putty.<\/p>\n\n

It may be that SpotWeb is still not working. Then go to File Station<\/strong> in Synology.<\/p>\n\n

Right-click on the web<\/strong>folder. And choose Properties<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Go to the Permissions<\/strong>tab. Double click on the user http<\/strong>. Check the Write<\/strong>and Read<\/strong>box.<\/p>\n\n
