Install Synology SABnzbd to download from Usenet

Install Synology SABnzbd in this tutorial We are going to install SABnzbd on a Synolgy NAS. Next, we are going to configure SABznbd to download from the newsgroups.

Sometimes SABNzbd may not be available on your Synology because your device is not supported by SABnzbd. You can also look at the tutorial to install SABnzbd Docker.

Add SABnzbd installation option to your Synology NAS.

Before we can install SABnzbd. On your Synology NAS. First we need to add the option to install SABnzbd on your Synology NAS.

If you are logged in, go to the Package Center.

Then choose Settings.

Select Each publisher.

Go to the Package Resources tab. And now click Add. Enter a Namehere. And at location you fill in the followingNamehere. press OK. And again OK.

Add download folder for SABnzbd

You can choose to create a download folder yourself. Or you can choose to use the default folder.

If you choose to use the default folder. Then you can skip this step.

Go to the beginning screen of your Synology NAS. And opt for File Station. Click Create. And then click Create New Shared Folder.

Give the folder a name. And choose a location. Once you’ve done that, click OK.

Click Local Users. And then choose Local groups.

You must check users Read/write permissions. Otherwise SABnzbd cannot create directories. This is because SABnzbd does not operate as a service under your own username. And of course also give the Administrators group access. So you can also access the folder. Then click OK.

Your folder has now been created. And you can now see him on the left side. Click on it with your right mouse. And chooseProperties. Select the Location. And copy it because you need it for the installation. Close this screen.

Install SABnzbd Synology

Now we can start the installation of SABnzbd.

Go back to the Packe Center.

If you scroll down this screen you will see a Community button. Click on this and you will see an icon with SABnzbd Install on the right side. Choose to install.

During the installation of SABnzbd. You will be asked for a Download directory. Paste it here. In my case it was “/volume1/mySabnzbddownloads“.

Click Next.

In the next screen, check the Run after installation checkbox.

And now Apply.

The installation of SABnzbd is now complete. And you can access SABnzbd via http://your-ipadress-synolgy:8080
