Sonarr Qnap Setup V4

In this tutorial Sonarr Qnap setup V4. We will setup Sonarr v4 on a Qnap system to automatically download tv series from newsgroups with SABnzbd.

Sonarr makes it possible to automatically download TV series from newsgroups and via torrent files. In this tutorial we discuss the newsgroups option.

Sonarr V4 Configure Media Management

Go to Settings. And then choose Media Management.

Turn on Show Advanced Settings.

Check Rename Episode

You might wonder why renaming files is necessary. The answer is simple: many releases are encrypted and therefore have incomprehensible file names, such as “02ffb34078hg519fdf975adfbb1a267015ef13.x264”. This quickly leads to chaos in your media library. In addition, other programs, such as Kodi or tools for downloading subtitles, often cannot handle these files properly. By automatically renaming files, you ensure more clarity and better compatibility with other software.

Therefore, it is recommended to use the following settings.

Standard Episode Format “{Series.Title}.S{season:00}E{episode:00}.{Episode.Title}.{Quality.Full}-{Release.Group}”

Daily Episode Format “{Series Title} – {Air-Date} – {Episode Title} {Quality Full}”

Series Folder Format “{Series Title}”

Season Folder Format “{Series Title}”

Create empty series folders Yes

Download Propers Yes

Analyse video files Yes

Sonarr Qnap Setup Profiles

To the Profiles tab.

Click a section that you want to start using. And adjust this to your own preference. Above is my preference.

It is best to leave the language on English unless a TV series is also available in your own language. But the chance is very small that this tv show is found. This is because these series are uploaded very little in the newsgroups. And if they are present in the newsgroups, the scene rules are often not followed. As a result, these are not yet downloaded via Sonarr.

By hovering over the three indents. You can adjust the order of what Sonarr first tries to download.

At Cutoff you indicate when Sonarr has to stop searching.

When you’re done, click on Save Changes

Scroll down a bit until you see the Release profiles option. Click the plus sign at the bottom and add something you don’t want to download in the Must not contain field. For example, I personally block releases from MeGusta, because they often only contain 2.0 sound. I prefer at least 5.1 sound with my series, so that’s why I exclude these releases.

Sonarr V4 Setup Quality Qnap

With the right quality settings, you can reduce download errors in Sonarr V4 on a QNAP NAS. Here is a quick guide to optimizing this.

Now go to the Quality tab. By default, the Minimum Quality is set to 0. It is wise to adjust this value, so that you receive fewer unwanted downloads. Note: if you watch animated series, do not set this option too low, because these types of series often have a smaller file size.

Beware! As you can see, it is important to adjust the Title here as well so that it stays as close to a scene name as possible. Replace the dashes with periods and make sure that “1080p” and “720p” are at the beginning. For example: “HDTV.2160p”.

Sonarr v4 configure Indexers

Now go to the Indexers tab. These are the websites from which the NZB files are automatically downloaded. The more indexers you add, the more likely your desired TV series will be found and downloaded.

See also Newznab sites for an overview. Create an account with some of these Newznab providers. Or use one good paid one.

If you did. Click on the plus.

Then, at Neznab, click Costume.

You will then see the screen above. Fill in the details of the Newznab site here.

The API key can almost always be found in your account settings on the NewzNab site. If you have done that, first do a Test and then Save . Now add all your Newznab sites in this way.

It is recommended to skip some sites if you are also using other programs, such as CouchPotato. This way the API hits are distributed. If you have an account with a paid Newznab site, this usually does not matter, because you usually have enough API requests.

Below you see Options.

Minimum Age on 60.

Retention Here you enter the retention of your Usenet provider. This ensures that no API requests are wasted, which your Usenet provider cannot download anyway.

RSS Sync Interval Set it to 20 or more. But not too much otherwise it could already be gone thanks to DMCA (varies per usenet provider). But certainly no less otherwise, your API requests are also very fast gone.

Setting up Sonarr v4 Qnap with SABnzbd

You need the API key from SABNZBD.

Open a second tab in your browser, and open SABnzbd (default 127.0.0.1:8080)

Go to Settings.

Click General and copy the API key.

Now get back to Sonarr.

Click Settings.

Go to the client download tab.

Click on the plus.

Fill in the above information.

Name Doesn’t matter.

Host localhost or 127.0.0.1

API Key (API key in SABNZBD) comes from SABNZBD that you just copied you.

Username Please enter your own user name of SABNZBD

Password Please enter your own password from SABNZBD.

Category TV This should be really TV, otherwise it doesn’t work well.

Recent Priority should be lower than Older priority. It is often more difficult to download old TV episodes than episodes that have just been released.

Now click Test. If the test is successful, click Save. If it doesn’t work, check if you entered the correct username, password or API key.

Sonarr Set up Sonarr v4 Qnap

If you have a media player, like me, you will need to enter its details so that your library is updated with the latest TV series. If you do not have a media player, you can skip the next two steps.

Go to the Tablad Connect.

Click on the plus.

These are my settings, but they are usually different for everyone.

Click on Test. And then on Save.

Set up Sonarr Qnap MetaData

You only use this option if you have a media player; otherwise you can skip this step. These are my settings for Kodi, which ensure that covers are automatically downloaded for Kodi.

Sonarr Add Existing Series

You can skip this step if you don’t have any TV series on your QNAP NAS yet.

If you already have some TV shows. You can add it in Sonarr.

Go to Series. And then Library Import.

Press on Choose another folder.

Click on the Blue folder , and select the folder where your existing tv shows are. And then click OK.

Sonarr Add TV Shows

Now it’s time to add TV shows in Sonarr. Now go back to Sonarr V4.

Go to the main screen.

Enter the name of your tv show here.

Press on Add New Series.

Select the tv show you want to add.

You will then get the above screen.

Root folder is the folder where your series are stored.

Check the Start Search for missing episodes.

Sonarr will now look for your series via the Newznab sites you specified, and NZBGet will download the TV series. Sonarr will then place the downloaded series in the correct folder.
