Install Openelec with Kodi on a Raspberry Pi via Windows

In this manual, install Openelec with Kodi on a Raspberry Pi. You need a computer with Windows to create an OpenELEC image on an SD card. You also need an SD card reader that is connected to your Windows computer.

Download OpenELEC disk image

First you had to download the OpenELEC disk image.

For the Raspberry PI 2 and 3 it can be found here.

It is very important that you get the right version for the right rasberry PI.

Extract the file with, for example, the Winrar program. Right mouse click on the .img.gz file and then Extract Here.

Writing OpenELEC with Win32 Disk Imager

You need Win32 Disk Imager to properly write OpenELEC to your SD card.

If you have downloaded the Win32 Disk Imager program. Then start this one.

Click Next.

Check I accept the agreement and click Next.

If you click on Browse you can change the installation location if you want and then click on Next. And click Next twice more. And then Install. And tthen Finish.

You may receive the above message, you can ignore this.

The following is important.

1. You have to make sure that the SD card is in the computer.
2. Everything on the SD card will be deleted.
3. If you don’t see anything under device, your SD card is not recognized.

Now launch Win32 Disk Imager from the shortcut on your desktop. Click on the blue folder and find the image file of OpenELEC that you just downloaded and extracted. Select your correct device if you have more monkeys connected to your PC. Press on Write.

Now you can get the above message click Yes. And OpenElec will now be written to your SD Card. When the program is ready, you can remove the sd card from the computer and put it in your Rassbery pi.
