In this tutorial Readarr Configure Synology. Are we going to set up Readar so that the desired E-books and Audio books are automatically downloaded from the newsgroups.
You must already have the SABnzbd program installed on your Synology, and you must be able to download from the newsgroups with it. If this is not the case yet, first see the SABNzbd installation Synology tutorial. And if that doesn’t work, you can also use the SABNzbd Docker install Synology tutorial.
Create Readarr folder Synology
First we need to create a folder on Synology where your books will be stored
In your Synology, go to Go to File Station.
Click Create and choose Create Folder.
And give the folder a name. In my case I call it books.
Right-click on the newly created folder.
Select Properties.
Then go to Rights. And then Make.
Select your own Synology account, Administrator and sc-readarr. The sc-readarr account was automatically created during the installation of Readarr.
Under permissions, check all boxes. And click Done.
Click Save.
Your folder is now set up correctly. If you do not set this correctly, your downloads will remain in the SABbd folder.
Configure Readarr Synology Media Management
Now we can configure Readarr Synology Media Management. So that we can set the desired type of books and quality.
Open Readarr’s page.
Go to Settings, then Media Management, turn on Show Advanced.
Check the box here Books deleted from disk are automatically unmonitered in Readarr.
Under Root Folder click on the plus sign.
Name name it books.
At Path you specify the folder of the folder you created in the previous step. And click Save.
Vergeet het boven niet regelmatig ook op Save Changes te klikken als je wat hebt aangepast.
indexers
You need an indexer. So that Reader knows where to download the NZB file from.
Go to Settings , and choose Indexers.
Click on the plus icon.
Choose Newznab.
You must now enter the details of your Newznab server. If you don’t have these yet, see Newznab servers. The more you add, the more likely your books and audiobooks will be found.
Click Test and Save.
Minimum age 5 minutes.
Maximum Size 3000 is more than enough. If you only download E-books, this can be a lot smaller, for example 300MB. This increases the chance that less good books will be downloaded.
Retention the retention of your Usenet provider. You can often find this information on the website of your usenet provider. Usually this is two years or more.
And click Save.
Readarr Profiles
We are now going to set up the profiles for the desired quality time you want.
Go to Settings, then Profiles.
We are going to modify a standard profile.
Click eBook.
This is something you have to configure to your own taste, and what your device supports. The extensions below are for E-books. The rest is for Audio books, you create a separate profile for that.
AZW3 format is from Amazon.
EPUB Supported by most E-book readers.
Mobi is an old format and is no longer being developed. If your e-reader supports it, I would leave it on.
PDF Supported by just about every device.
Check the box UpgradesAllowed. Readarr then stops searching when the top result is reached.
You can adjust the order by clicking on the 3 lines with your mouse.
Click Save, when it has been adjusted to your desired profile.
Choose Spoken for Audiobooks if you want to download them automatically.
Check the box here as well UpgradesAllowed. This causes Readarr to stop searching when the top result is reached.
Here too you have to check whether your device can handle these audio formats. Flac can sometimes cause problems, for example.
Now click on the plus icon at the bottom of Release Profiles.
At Must Contain you can indicate what should be present in the release name.
Must not Contain can block your releases from certain uploaders.
And click Save. You will probably need to adjust this later. I haven’t found anything I want to block at the moment.
Configure Readarr download client
Now to Download clients. So we can link Readarr to SABnzbd.
Click on the plus icon.
Select SABnzbd.
You must now open SABNzbd because you need some data from your SABnzbd installation, these data are different for everyone.
In SABnzbd, click on the Gear icon. Go to the categories tab.
Add a Readarr category. You can also do this without it. But then you also have to leave this empty when adding sabznbd.
And then under the General tab you can find the above information you need.
Now go back to Readarr. Fill in the above information. Beware! You need the API key and not the NZB key. click Test and then Save. If the test fails. Check the data again. SABnzbd must also be running.
Make sure the above is on. So that a download is attempted again if a download fails. Your Newznab provider must support this. But nowadays they all support this.
Automatically download books with Readarr
Now we can add some books.
Now go to Library. then ADD New.
You can search for a book name and the author will come up. Click here.
NOW the following screen appears. Here you can indicate whether you want the Audiobooks or the E-books. You can’t do both for the same writer. You then have to install a second Readarr.
Check the box Start search for missing books. And then click the green button to add this writer. It will now automatically search for the books by this author.
Now if you go to Books. Then you will see all the books by this author.
